I saw this movie a couple of weeks back but did not immediately write my review, since too often, the initial impression movies such as this make, pale with time. In this case, iam happy to report, time doesn’t do much damage.Tony Gilroy has already proved his abilities with the “bourne” movies and ofcourse with [...]

Ironman: Good old fun at the movies

What would you typically expect in a movie based on a comic book character?
Some exciting chase sequences, a few edge of the seat fights, some moments of mirth and an unpredictable narrative. If this is your cup of tea, then Iron man is for you.
There will be blood — Magnificient

I expect a deluge of softer, more palatable, more “mainstream” versions of Mr. Daniel Day Lewis character and particularly his performance in “There will be blood” long into the future. If imitation is a sincere form of flattery, then all those forthcoming features would be the greatest tribute to this movie.
It is a memorable movie [...]
Sicko: Uneven but relevant argument for health care system reform in US
Posted in Movies, tagged Michael Moore, Sicko on January 13, 2008 | 1 Comment »
Most people either love or hate Michael Moore, which works well for promoting his movies. This doesn’t necessarily work well for the causes he works for, since he attempts to push a larger agenda which quickly degenerates into partisan bickering. Sicko, michael moore’s recent movie on the health care system in the US, raises the [...]
The Great Debaters… An earnest effort

The best part of this movie is its earnestness, be it thematic elements, scenario development or dialogue, it strives to be true to the core belief’s of the production team. Purely from the perspective of those under currents of ideology, there may have been other similar movies made earlier, but in this case it is [...]
Iam Legend – Should have been crisper
Posted in Movies on December 26, 2007 | Leave a Comment »
The movie was a good watch, but i suspect the script writers were torn between tackling ideas that arise of the premise and catering an action packed thriller. Will Smith and the dog shoulder the movie impressively but the movie should have been much crisper.

I ran across this show quite accidentally but i can report that this is worth sparing 30 minutes of your time every week. Check out some of the full episodes that are available here and you will agree with me.
I especially like Sheldon’s character and some of his monologues. Who ever wrote that character is [...]
National Treasure… Why a sequel when the original itself was so insipid?
Posted in Movies, tagged Book of secrets, National Treasure, Nicholas Cage on December 25, 2007 | Leave a Comment »
There are very few who saw National Treasure. It is supposedly hit movie, which in Hollywood parlance means it survived one week at the box office. (OK that was satirical, but my point here is did you watch National Treasure at the theatre’s, planning the trip, taking friends along with you, and paying ticket cost? [...]
Charlie Wilson’s war, A decent watch
Posted in Movies, tagged Charlie Wilson's war, Julia Roberts, Om Puri, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Tom Hanks on December 24, 2007 | 1 Comment »
Charlie wilson’s war is based on CIA backed fighting in Afghanistan against the USSR at that time. Assuming the movie is not embellished, it was a pretty huge undertaking for any one. Having an understanding of the geo-political history of Afghanistan would help you in better enjoying the movie. Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts, Philip Seymour [...]
American Gangster: Trite

They say real life inspires drama. American Gangster too claims to be fiction inspired by fact. The problem with the movie lies in the process of dramatization. It seems like the script writer and director picked up a book, like this one for instance, and went about making the movie. Which is a surprise since [...]
Michael Clayton: A review that doesn’t talk about George Clooney
Posted in Movies, tagged George Clooney, Michael Clayton, Movie reviews, Movies, Serious cinema, Tony Gilroy on October 28, 2007 | Leave a Comment »
An immensely watchable movie, with characterization grey as a winter morning. Actors deliver dependably with their individual performances. For me, the best part was the movie gaining in its grip as it progresses. That doesn’t happen too often at the movies any more. If you are interested in serious cinema, then Michael Clayton is for [...]
