The best part of this movie is its earnestness, be it thematic elements, scenario development or dialogue, it strives to be true to the core belief’s of the production team. Purely from the perspective of those under currents of ideology, there may have been other similar movies made earlier, but in this case it is [...]

Iam Legend – Should have been crisper
Posted in Movies on December 26, 2007 | Leave a Comment »
The movie was a good watch, but i suspect the script writers were torn between tackling ideas that arise of the premise and catering an action packed thriller. Will Smith and the dog shoulder the movie impressively but the movie should have been much crisper.

I ran across this show quite accidentally but i can report that this is worth sparing 30 minutes of your time every week. Check out some of the full episodes that are available here and you will agree with me.
I especially like Sheldon’s character and some of his monologues. Who ever wrote that character is [...]
National Treasure… Why a sequel when the original itself was so insipid?
Posted in Movies, tagged Book of secrets, National Treasure, Nicholas Cage on December 25, 2007 | Leave a Comment »
There are very few who saw National Treasure. It is supposedly hit movie, which in Hollywood parlance means it survived one week at the box office. (OK that was satirical, but my point here is did you watch National Treasure at the theatre’s, planning the trip, taking friends along with you, and paying ticket cost? [...]
Charlie Wilson’s war, A decent watch

Charlie wilson’s war is based on CIA backed fighting in Afghanistan against the USSR at that time. Assuming the movie is not embellished, it was a pretty huge undertaking for any one. Having an understanding of the geo-political history of Afghanistan would help you in better enjoying the movie. Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts, Philip Seymour [...]

The Associated Press: Bonuses on Wall Street Surge 14 Percent
That is the average percentage raise, over what was a record pay out last year. Given the losses this year for financial industry participants, across the board except for Goldman Sachs, what is the logic to this?
I wonder how the boards of these companies accepted this. [...]
A $ a watt solar panels, will this approach work?
Posted in Energy technology, Environment, Technology, tagged , energy generation, Google, Nanosolar, Solar power on December 21, 2007 | Leave a Comment »
This news story from infoworld talks about a technology startup working on a dollar a watt solar panels. Interestingly google founders back this company according to articles on CNET and nytimes.
At this price, solar power is supposedly cheaper than coal.
Points to ponder:
1. Does this pricing scheme include power delivery systems also?
2. What are the variables [...]
So where should climate change efforts start from?

This would be amusing if it were not so loathsome.
Kyoto protocol was not ratified for eons literally, which could have hopefully made a difference to our environment. Bali summit dragged on and on, discussing what to discuss in the next round of discussions. Now, Federal administration refuses to allow California to enact its own environmental [...]
Thoughts on Henry Blodget’s Alley Insider article…

Here is the article i referred to in the title. I notice a sense of “Inevitability” to this and similar articles / blogentries / comments etc. IMPO (In my personal opinion), this is that old standby of journalism and opinion making, smooth out the edges – conclude the article (SOTECTA in short). For [...]
Google, a lot of good moves some inexplicable…

This is a nytimes story about google – microsoft powwow and this one is about google Knol, which i do not think is such a good idea after all. Wikipedia is a great thought, brilliantly executed and reaching a point where it becomes a de-facto standard. A new concept even one promoted by google will [...]
First it was Real estate, then sub prime mortgage, then credit crisis, later recession, now it is stagflation

It was in March 2007, that S & P/ Case – Shiller Home price index first mentions deep trouble in Real Estate industry. To his credit, Robert Shiller made the correct call on real estate bubble back in 2005, at its peak. Over the past nine months, we moved from real estate bubble bursting to [...]
